????

I have no idea what’s triggered this, but during the past few days, a memory from my childhood keeps popping up in my head and it’s reached a point where I should probably address it. Perhaps it’s the repeated listening to the “Bend It Like Beckham” soundtrack during the past few days that’s done it…who knows. Regardless of the reason, I’ll save that particular explanation for another time… ;-)

The memory is of watching a movie on tv when I was a child. I don’t recall where I was at the time - at home or at a friends, but for some reason, bits and pieces of that movie has always stayed with me. The movie itself was a roller skating movie - the kind that was so very popular in the late 70’s. It involved some very “cool” kids on roller skates who ultimately battle it out in some competition in a huge arena to defeat some evil goon. What they defeated him on I’ve no idea…perhaps he was preventing them from riding around town in their big van, you know, the one with shag carpeting. *confused look*

The only way I think I’ll be able to put this to rest is by doing some serious googling methinks. With any luck I’ll find the title to the movie, and perhaps even find a copy on VHS in the bargain bin at the local video rental store. In the mean time it’s back to the “Bend It Like Beckham” soundtrack. *puts headphones on*

Oh and yes, this being a site about brown sauce and all, I do believe I’ve a new entry for the gallery this week. I’ll put it up either tomorrow or Friday when the mood strikes; I’m fickle that way…

Fine Dining

Tuesday, March 01st, 2005

On Sunday evenings we typically have a friend over to watch 2 hours of Coronation Street with us - Corrie to the uninitiated. This past weekend was no different; friend confirmed she was coming with Guinness and it was up to me to cook something up for dins. It was suggested I make up a batch of Betty’s hot pot, but sadly we didn’t have any lamb in the freezer. Here’s what I managed instead:

Seven Layer Caserole (or however many layers you like)
Butter the bottom and sides of a deep caserole dish with about a tablespoon of butter. In layers add the following ingredients (about 1cm deep):

Onions (thinly sliced)
Potatoes (thinly sliced) covered with a tablespoon of butter
Peas
Ground Beef
Onions (thinly sliced)
Carrots (diced)
Ground Beef
Cover the top layer of ground beef with ketchup (about 1/2 - 3/4 cup)
Cover and bake at 375F for about 1 1/2 hours.

Serve with healthy portions of HP Sauce, favourite ale, Corrie and good company.

What can I say? Chicks dig guys in towels!
