This past weekend, I went to a couple local flea markets with family, along with my two nephews who are visiting from out of town. The first was located in an old warehouse, by the railway tracks, “down by the river”. Although I’m not exactly new to the flea market “scene” generally, this was my first experience with this particular one. We entered through the back of the building, and once inside we were overwhelmed by dozens of booths, all trying to peddle vintage items from popular culture. It’s here when it hit me - “Perhaps I could find an old HP Sauce bottle from yonks back, one with the letters “HP” etched into the glass or something”. With this in mind, I went out scouring.
After about a half hour or so of looking, I’d found all sorts of goodies ranging from vintage A&W Root Beer Mugs, to LP’s & VHS tapes, to Pyrex dishes, to watches…you name it, except HP Sauce bottles. I’d never have thought they’d be hard to find…afterall considering some of the c**p that makes it into that building, surely a lone HP Sauce bottle or two wouldn’t be out of place would it? Realising it was soon time to get going, I approached one of the friendlier looking vendors:
Me: “Excuse me, do you have a second?”
Vendor: “Sure, what can I do for you?”
Me: “I’m looking for vintage HP bottles.”
Vendor: “What??” *with a confused look on his face*
Me: “Vintage HP Sauce bottles, have you seen anything like that around here?”
Vendor: *suddenly in a right huff!* Well, MAYBE!
Me: *taken aback*
Vendor: *throws up his hands* We see all sorts of stuff in here! *as he walks away*
Well excuuuuuse me! LOL
Now I’m really intruigued. On the one hand, are there vintage HP Sauce bottles out there? If so, are they hard to come by? And why was the very mention of them enough to set that guy off anyway??
*moving on*
Before writing this post, I went downstairs to the caffeteria to get myself a cup of herbal tea (I’m 16 days decaffienated!). I normally can’t stand herbal tea, but I found one that with a touch of honey, really hits the spot (thank heavens for that!). Anyway, I go to get a teaspoon for my honey out of the drawer and I choose the wrong drawer. The drawer I always seem to pick is the one containing the “cup-o-soup”s. Then, after realising I’d made this error for the 1001’st time, I grab a teaspoon out of the drawer beside it and go back up to my desk. What’s up with that anway? I’ve worked in the same building, at the same desk for the past 3 years…why do I always pick the wrong drawer for my teaspoons?? Do I need to actually write about it before I can get this right? Pfth!

One more HP bottle tossed into the recycling bucket this weekend. With extended family over, and temps reaching the low 30C’s all weekend, the BBQ was working overtime. This weekend we tried HP’s “Chicken & Rib” flavour on the BBQ’d pork chops. They were a massive hit, I say a massive hit!
*random thought*
I could’ve sworn I saw Dev Alahan (sp?) from Coronation Street driving a convertable the other day. I only saw him from 3/4’s behind him to the side, but it sure looked like him! The type of car was something he’d drive too, all flash - that’s Dev! Unfortunately he turned off before I could catch up and get a look at him (or hit a tree, one of the two). Still, I know it couldn’t have been him, but what would this guy have thought, to see some yahoo persuing him craning his neck out of the window trying to get a look at him? LOL I’ll catch you next time pal!
