HP In The Trenches

Thursday, January 12, 2006 By Brad

Back in December, I wrote about a site I had discovered called Tommy’s Pack Fillers. Here, one can order replica labels for original etched glass Garton’s H.P Sauce bottles among other things.

The site owner Geoff and I exchanged a few emails and to my surprise he asked if I’d be interested in a picture of a WWI soldier with a bottle of HP Sauce. Would I!?!

A couple weeks later, I received 3 photos in my inbox which I’ve now posted to the gallery.
Here is Geoff’s email:

    Hi Brad,

As promised, copies of genuinely original, authentic, period sepia photos from the First World War showing H.P. Sauce in use by the British Army in Flanders in 1915. (not!)

These replica items are from my collection and one of my colleagues in our First World War living history group posed in our replica trench.

    Regards,
    Geoff

Many thanks to Geoff for going to this effort to provide replica period photographs like this for us! Well Done!
