For the second edition of this volume a number of changes have been made. Elizabeth Gaskella€™s a€œOur Society at Cranforda€ has been added, as has Anthony Trollopea€™s a€œA Ride Across Palestine.a€ Charles Dickens is now represented with two short selections: a€œThe Story of Little Dombeya€ and a€œSikes and Nancy.a€ The selection of poems by D.G. Rossetti has been expanded considerably (the entire 1870 House of Life sequence is included). Other poets, including Michael Field, George Meredith, and Amy Levy now have expanded selections. A small selection of poems by two key figures who also appear in the anthologya€™s twentieth century volume (Thomas Hardy and W.B. Yeats) are also now included. Several of the Contexts sections in the volume have been expandeda€”notably a€œThe Place of Women in Society, a€ which now includes material concerning the Contagious Diseases Acts, and a€œBritain, Empire, and a Wider World, a€ which now includes a section on the Great Exhibition of 1851. The volume will also include additional visual materiala€”including four more pages of full color illustrations. Inevitably, some selections have been dropped from the bound book; these will all remain available, however, on the anthologya€™s website component. The most significant change in that direction is Dickensa€™s A Christmas Carol.
